ROTTNEST
We took the fast ferry from Perth docks, past Freo & on out to Rotti.
It was hot & muggy but we got a lot done.
We stayed overnight in the hotel & were visited by peacocks & the cute quokkas.
We had dinner in a restaurant, took a flight in a Cessna around the island, the regular island tour & a glass bottom boat for great fish scenery.
Soon we were rushing back to Perth.
SHOCK
Charmaine could not settle,so I sent her back to SA.
I had some deep thinking but believed I had made the commitment & would join her.
It would be the beginning of a marriage beset with problems from Charmaine's issues which would try to be treated.
SAY GOODBYE TO AUSTRALIA
And so began the process of winding up...packing...resigning...saying goodbyes. I spent much time walking the banks of the Swan River, wondering when I would see it again.
My final night was dinner at the Du Plessis fam. I left the car at the airport & flew back to SA
LENS
I settled back into Pretoria Gate but the antagonism against white folks was getting really bad.
We moved Pam to Lenasia, a predominantly Asian area south of JNB.
The removal people were a bunch of crooks stealing a box...they did not get full payment...all the workers were black women...company name...GIRLS ON THE MOVE.
Innitially we got a small apartment but into a larger one the next day...quite nice really.
We used to watch the wide boys on a Fri parading in their shiny cars. My rental got broken into by a black security guard...I saw him...black cops did not want to know.
My plans were being formulated & we were also preparing Charmaine's contract for Britain
EASTBOURNE TO IRELAND TO EASTBOURNE
Returned to Britain & checked into a B & B in Eastbourne.
A few days later I was the proud owner of a used Peugeot saloon
I drove up to Wales to the port town of Pembrook where I took the ferry across to Wexford in Ireland.
Drove up through the Republic, through Dublin & into N Ireland & onto Banbridge,my destination.
I moved into a house that American YWAMERS were using...nice place & the grub was good & plenty. I helped with the gardening & working on the cars.
My reason for being there was help set up a radio station in the town.
I took a trip into Belfast & a round trip through County Down.
When my work was complete, I took the ferry from Larne to Morcombe on the Lancs coast & drove down to B'HAM & spent some time with David Stowe.
I then drove across to Colchester to see Tony Sands who had got into the country through his wife's teaching contract before spending time in the Wilkinson home in T Wells whilst they were away.
Then I began looking for a home in Eastbourne. I picked up a bunch of my stuff from Gatwick which had arrived freight & put it into storage.
Charmaine arrived & we innitially stayed in a small, but quaint place near the beach before finding our lovely apartment home in the well healed area Upperton...Laleham Court.
