ESPERANCE

Charmaine had a good position at this private hospital.

During the time she was there, she seemed to excell...

BURLINGTON SCHOOL

I started work at a language school down town.

Soon after, the principal left to join another school & I was offered the position.I spent time doing all the admin, teaching off course but also maintenance.

I went in the bus to the airports to pick up our Tutonic friends & organised all the trips. Also did many of the sport activities with them.

The London trips were a mixed bag of fun...trying to keep 20+ in line through the busiest tubes was no fun...but then there were the expenses of nice lunches & entertainment...all the time getting paid.

I got to know certain parts of London quite well...but always happy to go home.

AIR SHOW

Every yr in the summer, a mesmorising air show would take place over the English Channel. The prominade would be packed with people from all corners.

The Red Arrows would also perform. Charmaine loved it. I would be teaching so between the roar of jet engines &  the Eastbourne Womans Tennis Champs (which was nearby at the Devonshire Park Stadium  played just prior to Wimbledon) it was hard to make myself heard.

COMMERCIAL/WALKS/AREA

We really liked EB. The commercial sector, plus railway station & most ammenities were within walking distance. In fact we also walked or biked to work.

Our favourite store was a dying trend of department store called TJ HUGES. We also liked the different Pound stores.

We would walk on the prominade which was a good 3 miles or cycle to Hailsham pond on the Cuckoo Trail, a specially adapted cycle & walking trail. There we would picnic & feed the birds. Those were special days.

Around EB was the Sovereign Marina...full of glamorous boats & restaurants. Nearby was the quaint coastal village of Pevensay...to the west was the famed cliffs of Beachy Head, often used as a backdrop for film production. I had worked there helping the wild life rangers back in the 90's. More crumbling chalk cliffs further west were the 7 Sisters.

Yes it was a pleasant area with some of the best British weather

We took a tour to Edam, a tiny place with a world reputaion...for cheese & one to Ijmuiden on the other coast. We also took a day for Alkmaar, one of my favourite places

There was a festival & all the colour of the pageant was there.

A day out to Amsterdam with a canal cruise, red light walk & off course the Dam Rak

CAROLINAS

We flew into a bitter Boston storm for the night & were one of the last flights out the following morning before the weather closed Logan.

This was Charmaine's 1st visit to USA.

We changed in Charlotte to sunny weather & then on to Savannah & one of my favorite airports.

That evening we checked into our motel in Walterboro,SC We left the rental & crossed the highway where we stuffed ourselves at an all you can eat diner. The next day we fellowshipped at one of the friendliest churches.

Our next destination was Florence,SC We took trips around the town incl. a visit with a local radio station. We also motored up to Colombia & a radio station there.

Then south through Myrtle Beach & on to Charleston where we saw various sights, incl downtown,Patriots Point & Summerville.

Another radio station in Beaufort before a night outside Savannah back in Georgia.
